The mission of the Santa Fe Watershed Association is to protect and restore the health and vibrancy of the Santa Fe River and its watershed for the benefit of people and the environment. Stewardship and Restoration Coordinator (position description)
Reports to the Director of Stewardship and Community Outreach

Works with SFWA Director of Stewardship and Community Outreach and SFWA staff to support The Adopt-the-River and Adopt-an-Arroyo programs and other SFWA stewardship and restoration efforts. Priorities include working with steward teams, angel volunteers, City and County representatives, and the larger community to facilitate trash clean ups, watering, planting, and other SFWA efforts along our river and arroyos.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Maintain timely and professional communications with all SFWA volunteers
  • Coordinate clean-up events with Steward Teams and angel volunteers
  • Attend field activities such as clean-ups, watering, plantings, etc. as possible
  • Bring snacks, gloves, bags and other materials to field events as needed
  • Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies and snacks
  • Collect and wash gloves after each clean up
  • Provide training/overview to new volunteers/volunteer teams
  • Collect and maintain Steward Agreements, Safety Waivers, and collection data
  • Communicate with City/County Staff to ensure smooth scheduling, trash pick-up, etc.
  • Create and distribute volunteer announcements via social media, newsletter, nextdoor, etc.
  • Keep mailing lists and contact info up to date
  • Assist with volunteer appreciation efforts (thank you cards, events, etc.)
  • Remain in ongoing contact with Steward Team leaders and recruit new steward teams
  • Help ensure volunteer safety and satisfaction during all field events
  • Take photos of events and upload to agreed-upon folder, using labeling system provided
  • Report special occurrences or unusual activity (with photos as appropriate)

Other Duties

  • Assist Director of Stewardship and Community Outreach in creating bi-monthly steward/sponsor reports and City/County reports for the Adopt program
  • Assist with coordination for large clean-up events
  • Assist with updating the Google map of sponsored reaches
  • Facilitate educational activities with student steward teams and at public tabling events
  • Monitor river and arroyo conditions and report to the Director of Stewardship
  • Report any issues with Adopt signs to Director of Stewardship
  • Support education efforts as needed
  • Ongoing miscellaneous organization tasks to support the mission of the Santa Fe Watershed Association
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

  • Passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and collaboration
  • Comfort and ability teaching in an outdoor environment in a variety of conditions
  • Excellent communication and calendar management
  • Ability to lead adult volunteers
  • Comfort using computers and other standard technology
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Must have own transportation
  • This position requires climbing, lifting, and other physical exertion
  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish is preferred

15 hours/week, $18/hour
Opportunity for position to increase in pay, hours, and responsibility based on interest and performance
