Nichols Reservoir, located within the 17,384-acre Santa Fe Municipal Watershed, plays a critical role in supplying drinking water to households and businesses in Santa Fe and surrounding areas. Alongside McClure Reservoir, Nichols contributes to a combined storage capacity of about 4,000 acre-feet—providing roughly 40% of the city’s annual water use. Built in 1943, Nichols Reservoir is an earth-fill dam with a capacity of approximately 680 acre-feet.
